The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire text from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the recent years developing and managing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

The President

Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

"Challenge the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and trust your squad can earn top ranking? The option is yours."

The game does not have an official debut schedule or platforms, but players can expect additional details as production progresses.
