Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
